This is an outstanding opportunity for a Private Wealth Tax lawyer of 3 or more years’ PQE to join this highly-regarded London-based Private Client team. This is an exciting role that focuses on the delivery of complex UK tax and legal advice to US connected individuals, trustees, and family offices. Prior US related experience is not a requirement - strong UK tax technical skills is a requirement. The role involves collaborative working with other groups and departments within the Firm.
The Private Wealth & Tax group works with a diverse range of institutions, companies, and high net-worth individuals managing and protecting their assets in the most tax-efficient manner. Many of the individuals which the team advises are international, with personal wealth and business interests in numerous jurisdictions and sectors. They include professional fiduciaries and private trustees, both in the UK and all major international financial centres. They are often not resident in the UK, and many have never been resident or domiciled here. The tax issues they face are complex and varied. Nevertheless, the focus for all clients remains the same: preservation of their wealth for the benefit of their families and philanthropic endeavours. Clients want to comply with their UK and international tax reporting and payment obligations while maximising any available tax reliefs. They also want to preserve their privacy, protect their assets, realise value and safeguard their reputation and family values. Therefore the team works with them to navigate and balance these potentially conflicting objectives, providing bespoke and tailored solutions for each specific situation.
They perform this task against the backdrop of a dynamic and increasingly regulated world and advise on the formation, administration, taxation, and governance of clients’ structures, coordinating and working closely with local and international professional advisers, bankers, and family offices.
In view of the above, the successful candidate will advise on: the UK side of US/UK and international tax; trusts; asset protection structuring; and, lifetime planning for high-net and ultra-high net worth individuals, families, and their trustees. You will ideally have experience in private wealth and specialise in personal tax, trusts, and international and domestic wealth planning, gained at a strong personal tax practice at a well-regarded law firm. You will also have strong knowledge of both onshore and offshore tax and have a comprehensive understanding of the law surrounding trusts and asset structuring in the UK and internationally. Good technical knowledge in tax and wealth planning is important along with competent drafting skills. Membership of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) is desirable. Experience of the UK side of US/UK tax planning is desirable but absolutely not a pre-requisite.
