Inca Digital, part of Agfa NV, a leading global supplier of class leading industrial digital ink jet printers, has a vacancy for a Mechanical Design Engineer.
Based in our Cambridge development centre and reporting to the Mechanical Team Leader the applicant would be involved in the whole lifecycle of product development from concept and prototype stages, through to production and support.
This role requires experience and skills across the full development lifecycle; from technical specification through design and verification, and into product integration and production.
This role requires a candidate capable of delivering highly robust and thoroughly tested mechanical design solutions as well as one capable of leading mechanical development on new product development projects.
Principal Responsibilities: 1.
To drive the specification, design and detailing of mechanical components and assemblies to develop innovative mechanical solutions 2.
To liaise closely with the Project Manager and Project Team, identifying design requirements: function, reliability, cost, serviceability, and ensure the design integrates correctly 3.
From the design in Solidworks, to produce timely assembly drawings and detail drawings specifying materials, machining tolerances and assembly notes 4.
To produce bills of materials specifying bought out components and their source of supply 5.
To obtain cost effective quotations from vendors for manufactured parts and place timely orders 6.
Throughout the build process, to provide technical support to the Manufacturing Team, Procurement and the Design Team, providing assistance with test and build procedures, and the transfer of the product to manufacturing and the customer 7.
Defining appropriate, cost effective manufacturing techniques 8.
Understanding technical risks and devising and implementing mitigation plans 9.
Ensuring new product designs meet all the necessary requirements and mandatory standards 10.
Responsible for ensuring the mechanical design of new product developments are delivered to an acceptable quality and on time 11.
Definition of product acceptance criteria & testing 12.
Supporting product integration and acceptance testing 13.
Technical support to end customers 14.
To become familiar with, and adhere to, the Company and Parent Company processes, policies and procedures Knowledge and Experience: 1.
Relevant qualification (HNC, HND or degree) in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience 2.
Experienced Mechanical Engineer with more than five years product development and manufacture experience, preferably in a multidisciplinary manufacturing environment 3.
Experience of mechanisms, fluid handling, drives, jigs, fixtures, sheet metal, pneumatics, and safe machine design 4.
Experienced Solidworks user, competent with the use of MS Office software and MRP systems 5.
Sound knowledge of low to medium volume manufacturing techniques
