By splitting your time between our Congleton and Nottingham offices, you will have the opportunity to work closely with, and learn from, an experienced PLC programmer based in our Congleton office, who is approaching retirement age, as well as our team of dynamic, young Control Engineers based in Nottingham. This mentorship, together with exposure to key projects, will give you the scope to take on increasing responsibility for configuration, PLC programming, and commissioning across the Group. Working directly with customers, you will tackle technical challenges that bridge software engineering with real-world manufacturing processes, while contributing to a team that embraces innovation, including the use of AI tools in development workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Developing and maintaining legacy PLC software solutions
Designing, configuring and, commissioning our next generation control system
Communicating with customers and translating their requirements into functional design specifications
Testing, debugging, and performance tuning
Writing and updating technical documentation
Maintaining and supporting existing systems
Collaborating with team members and stakeholders
Out-of-hours support (evenings and weekends, after probationary period)
On-site commissioning work (typically during the week and in the UK but including weekends and overseas)
Required Skills
Allen Bradley PLC programming
Siemens PLC programming (TIA portal and Simatic Manager) or Mitsubishi PLC programming
Familiarity with SCADA systems
Knowledge of Windows Server and PCs
Desirable Skills
Electrical engineering experience
Additional programming experience (specifically C, C++, or C#)
SQL Server database
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a self-motivated PLC Control Engineer who thrives on solving complex challenges, working directly with customers, and operating in a factory environment. You should be highly adaptable, able to manage multiple priorities. Strong communicationskills-whether face-to-face, over video calls, or via email-are essential, as is a willingness to take ownership of projects in a collaborative setting.
You must also:
Have 5+ years of experience as a Maintenance Engineer or Shift Technician in a factory environment, working extensively with Allen Bradley and Siemens or Mitsubishi PLCs
Be available for on-site commissioning work (mainly UK, occasional overseas)
Be willing to work from the office five days per week, including at least two days per week in Congleton and two days per week in Nottingham
Hold a full UK driving licence
