Job Description About Us: Our client is a highly respected firm specializing in social welfare law, with a team that is recommended in both the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners.

We are currently seeking a Solicitor with at least one year of post-qualification experience to join our team, primarily focusing on Court of Protection (Welfare) cases.

Role Overview: As a Solicitor in our Social Welfare Department, you will focus on Court of Protection (Welfare) cases, supporting clients in safeguarding their rights and ensuring access to justice.

While your main responsibility will be handling Court of Protection matters, you will also have the opportunity to work on community care, public law, and housing cases.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for ensuring access to justice and have a good knowledge of the legal aid scheme.

Experience in privately funded work is also welcome.

You will benefit from working with a supportive team and gain exposure to a diverse range of cases, including those referred to us by local charities and NGOs.

We are often instructed by the Official Solicitor and currently have a growing demand for Court of Protection work, providing ample opportunity for professional development and career progression.

Key Responsibilities: Manage and conduct Court of Protection (Welfare) cases from start to finish, ensuring cases are handled promptly and efficiently.

Provide legal analysis and advice to clients on the appropriate course of action in relation to their welfare.

Maintain clear and regular communication with clients, ensuring adherence to client care requirements.

Manage routine correspondence, negotiations, and advocacy when appropriate.

Record time spent on all casework promptly and ensure cases are billed and payment recorded on completion.

Ensure compliance with the Legal Aid Agency’s requirements when applicable.

Keep up-to-date with relevant legal developments, particularly in Court of Protection and welfare law.

Undertake administrative tasks as required to ensure smooth functioning of the department and efficient case management.

Provide supervision when appropriate and seek guidance from supervisors when necessary.

Requirements Skills/Knowledge Requirements: At least one year of post-qualification experience in Court of Protection (Welfare) law, including acting for " P" via a litigation friend or family members in welfare-related proceedings.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and other professionals.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a focus on clarity and precision.

Ability to prioritise and work efficiently under pressure.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work to targets.

Proficient IT skills and experience using CCMS (Client and Case Management System) for Legal Aid funding.

Experience with privately-funded work is desirable.

A current Practising Certificate.

Commitment to promoting access to justice for vulnerable client groups.
