Job Description

The Mechanical Engineer will support the design of complex thermal and fluid systems for the Fusion and Modular business unit. This exciting new build project is embracing innovation to deliver a commercially. The role will provide analysis and calculation support across all Cooling Water Island Systems and will contribute to an internal centre of excellence for analysis and calculation methodology. Along with the cross-cutting lead you will generate static and transient flow and thermal analyses using various software tools and methods to demonstrate the system performance.

In addition the analysis engineer will assist with:
System design & system integration

Produce, review & update the system documentation

Performing analysis to define the control philosophy for the system

Perform sizing of components

Thermal-hydraulic calculation & modelling

Formulating equipment specifications


Required Experience:

Essential –
Process or Chemical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification

Demonstrated understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer & thermodynamics

Experience of producing design documentation and test specifications

Experience of PIPESIM, Flomaster or other 1 D CFD software

Additional Information

Experienced user of European and Offshore standards, for example Eurocode 3 and DNV.
Master level qualifications are preferable.
Experienced in the checking and approving of engineering CAD assemblies and detailed engineering/General Arrangement/fabrication drawings.
Experienced in the checking and approving of engineering documentation, such as manual calculations, reports etc.
Excellent Finite Element Analysis skills, in-depth knowledge of ANSYS workbench is desirable.
Experienced in the production checking and approval of non-linear and fatigue FEA using DNV and Eurocodes.
Additional Requirements:
Permanent Staff fill
BPSS and SC required
To undertake work packages supporting major UK and international Nuclear Clients.
Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level.
