Description

You’ll provide a frontline one-to-one service for children and young people (aged 5 – 19) who have been impacted by domestic abuse.

You’ll provide person-centred support to young people in their own abusive relationships.

A key part of your role will be to ensure all relevant agencies are working together to effectively safeguard children and young people at highest risk.

This role will be known internally as Young Person’s Violence Advisor (YPVA).

Job requirements Take responsibility for the efficient and effective management of all children and young people (CYP) referred, carrying out initial contact and assessment of risk.

Assess the needs of CYP affected by domestic abuse to plan and deliver effective and focused intervention, that prioritises their safeguarding and protection and achieves positive outcomes.

Use evidence-based tools (such as the Safe Lives young people’s risk identification checklist, or RIC) to identify and assess the risks and needs of young victims in abusive relationships.

Work within a multi-agency framework (including the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), Family Welfare Court and local safeguarding partnership) to ensure CYP are at the heart of their response to domestic abuse.

Assist CYP through the criminal justice system, preparing reports for court and attending where necessary and liaise with other agencies as appropriate.

Represent both Glow and the child in statutory meetings, such as core groups and Child Protection conferences as required, so that risks can be shared and appropriate safeguards can be put in place.

Stay up to date with current issues, legislation and best practice regarding domestic abuse, particularly relating to CYP.

What we’re looking for Minimum of NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People (or equivalent, such as a relevant degree)A minimum of 1 year experience of working with children or young people providing either one-to-one or group work/activities.

Safe Lives YPVA qualification or the willingness to work towards one (we’ll fund this and support you to complete it)Experience of delivering support to children and young people, recognising individual needs, e.g.

developmental stage and any additional learning needs.

Experience of managing safeguarding concerns.

Understanding of what great customer service is and excellent communication skills.

The ability to fulfil contractual commitments for commissioned services.

The ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks and demands.

Able to drive and have access to a vehicle for business use.

Enhanced DBS check.
