Web Hosting Engineer, North Yorkshire

As a Web Hosting Engineer, you’ll be part of a collaborative team that values technical growth and excellent client service. This role is a good fit if you enjoy solving problems, communicating, and developing technical skills across Linux Sys Admin, Dev Ops, Python automation, and AI-assisted tooling.

Your primary day-to-day focus is to resolve client issues with empathy and clarity, while also contributing to automation and workflows. Your input will help strengthen our infrastructure, advance automation, enhance client experiences, and support strong team dynamics.

Because client communication and information security are vital to the service we deliver, you’ll receive Client Communication and ISO 27001 awareness training as part of onboarding to ensure you’re confident in both the technical aspects and the high standards of security and communication required.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver outstanding client support via phone and ticketing systems
Troubleshoot and resolve hosting-related issues quickly and clearly
Monitor and maintain hosting servers for uptime and performance
Use and help develop our Puppet-based in-house automation tools and YAML + Git Ops change management process
Contribute to HA Do Stuff, our Python automation framework, by writing plugins
Collaborate with colleagues to continuously improve internal processes and automation
Document fixes and create knowledge base articles
Operate in line with ISO 27001 standards and best practices for security and compliance
Participate in the on-call rota (after probation)
Support the wider team, sharing knowledge and contributing ideas for continuous improvement What You’ll Gain

Strong commitment to customer service and clear communication
Solid Linux sysadmin knowledge (server management, troubleshooting)
Experience with Apache, Nginx, PHP, My SQL, Postgres, and Docker
Python scripting experience (or strong willingness to learn)
Familiarity with Git workflows and YAML configuration
Understanding of Git Ops principles (or a willingness to learn)
Awareness of information security practices (ISO 27001 exposure is a plus)
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
Proactive mindset: eager to learn, improve, automate, and use AI effectively
Exposure to Puppet, Terraform, or Ansible
Experience with automation frameworks and infrastructure as code
Familiarity with c Panel, Plesk, or Windows Server
