The Principal Safety Engineer position entails collaborating within a team of system safety engineers to support the implementation of various intricate safety critical and safety related systems across diverse platforms. Specifically, the role involves conducting safety engineering tasks in alignment with safety protocols, utilizing guidance from Def Stan 00-056 and IEC61508. These tasks encompass Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Functional Failure Analysis (FFA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Mode, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA). Additionally, the safety engineer must stay updated on the latest legislation and regulations relevant to their projects, analyzing pertinent standards and regulations that necessitate compliance. ‎ WE NEED THE SAFETY ENGINEER TO HAVE… Conduct safety analysis tasks as directed by the project safety manager. Develop system safety requirements to ensure alignment with customer safety targets, incorporating factors like random hardware failure probabilities and systematic safety integrity level (SIL) targets for software/firmware. Assist in planning safety activities for complex projects, including estimating efforts to meet project milestones and safety case objectives. Support audits during internal and external design reviews and safety committee meetings. Conduct safety analysis, document findings in a report subject to internal peer review and governance evaluations, and present outcomes to the customer. Generate technical documentation adhering to company/customer procedures. Travel to customer and sub-contractor sites in the UK and occasionally overseas as necessary. Perform analyses that positively influence design decisions and solutions proposed by engineering teams. Articulate complex and reasoned safety arguments to internal and external stakeholders to influence their safety-related decisions.
