Job overview We are looking for candidates with previous experience working in Emergency Medicine (EM) or Paediatrics who are able to supervise junior colleagues in the management of paediatric patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) and are wanting to further develop their own skills and expertise in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM). The department has four PEM sub-specialty trained EM Consultants who work across both the adult and paediatric EDs. There is an EM consultant on-site from 8am to midnight 7 days a week. Outside these hours, the Emergency Department team is led by a senior EM trainee (ST4+) or trust grade doctor in close liaison with the senior nursing team. There is a close working relationship with the Paediatric team. Main duties of the job The post holder will undertaking clinical duties as a Registrar in Paediatric Emergency Medicine at NUH including pro-rata out of hours work. Detailed job description and main responsibilities The post holder will be required to use the computer for inputting of data.The post holder will be bending and supporting patients to the bed.They may be involved in emergency situations such as cardiac arrest which will require the post holder to initiate interventions.The post holder will be required to support patients and relatives in breaking bad news.To be aware of potential patients who may require immediate referral, due to the way in which they present.Clinical navigation – identifying patients who may need emergency assistanceThe post holder may be exposed to bodily fluids, blood and vomit.Occasional aggressive behavior of patients, relatives or careers.Occasional distressed patients, relatives or careers. The post holder requires a high level of concentration at all times as they deal with heavy demands from a variety of sources Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Full registration with General Medical CouncilMBBS or equivalentBLSAPLS / EPALSPLAB if requiredSafeguarding Children Level 324 months experience in either Paediatrics or in Acute specialties (Emergency Medicine / Acute Medicine / ITU / Anaesthetics / Paediatrics) with a minimum of 12 months in Emergency Medicine Desirable criteria Additional relevant degree (intercalated, masters or doctorate) ALS ATLS RCPCH or equivalent MRCEM or equivalent FRCEM or equivalent 3 years or more experience in emergency medicine and acute specialties OR paediatrics Experience working at registrar / ST3 level in emergency medicine or paediatrics.
